Tornado is a little marvel
Just look as this costume design. (Pic taken from laptop screen.)
Right from the first few frames the costumes are inspired, and continue to be so all the way through the movie. The film is lovingly shot on 35mm somewhere in the English midlands, and the cast is flawless.
But what I admire most about the movie (other than the wardrobe dept.) is the use of violence. Subdued but efficient as can be, the bloodletting in Tornado is not used to release audience tension, but to add to it slowly, layer on layer. This pairs well with the titular character’s growing understanding of the dreadful consequences of her unwise decisions that kick off the action. Honestly, it’s a delight, if a grim one.
Tornado is still available on tv. Please don’t pirate it. It’s just a little movie trying to live it’s own little life.
